It all begins on World Vegan Day 2001. One of the pioneers for vegan products goes online. Its name says it all: veganbasics. The first shelf is filled mostly with reading material, books, guides and flyers. These are followed by food, cleaning agents and cosmetics to be found like this nowhere else—except here at veganbasics.

After the first shelf follow further shelves, then a whole depot. The stock grows continuously over the years. With the growing number of people who live vegan lifestyles, the number of vegan “basics” also grows.

The founders are Matthias Boller, Michael Ponn and Lars Thomsen. As is so often the case in life, they have now gone their separate ways. Matthias has remained devoted to the vegan idea—he is now responsible for the logistics of a large vegan food brand. Lars Thomsen has stayed on as manager of veganbasics; besides the shop there is also the vegan wholesaler veggiepro, which supplies further shops and wholefood stores.

veganbasics has been committed to the “good cause” from the word go. The attribute “vegan” is, wherever possible, augmented by “organic” and “fair trade”. Wherever possible we use recycled paper. Our electricity is certified nuclear-free und CO2-neutral, as is the provider that administrates the company’s many websites. Our bank is the leading ethical bank and the only one that opposes animal testing and excludes any related financial products from its portfolio. veganbasics has grown step by step. After all, you don’t get good growth by pulling on the grass.

The basic concept of veganbasics is vegan responsibility and a consistent ethical stance. With the joy of living, sights set on the good and beautiful in life, much patience and confidence that there will come a human society built on responsible vegan action.
